PURPOSE:To increase the discharge capacity of a nonaqueous-electrolyte battery whose negative electrode is a light metal by using a compound made by calcining a mixture of manganese dioxide and molybdenum trioxide for the positive electrode. CONSTITUTION:A nonaqueous-electrolyte battery includes a negative electrode whose active material is a light metal such as lithium or sodium, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive active material of the battery is prepared from a compound which is obtained by calcining a mixture of manganese dioxide and molybdenum trioxide. For example, 87g of manganese dioxide and 144g of molybdenum trioxide are homogeneously mixed, the mixture undergoes heat treatment at 250-400 deg.C and is crushed, before the crushed mixture is passed through a screen of 200 mesh; the crushed mixture that passes this screen is used as a positive active material. Following that, the positive active material is mixed with a conductive agent and a binder, the mixture is compressed, molded, and subjected to vacuum heat-treatment at 300 deg.C to make a positive electrode. |
