发明名称 TREATMENT OF MOLTEN IRON
摘要 <p>1503369 Making compress porous metal bodies N L INDUSTRIES Inc 14 Oct 1975 [15 Oct 1974] 42095/75 Addition to 1470923 Headings B3H and B3A [Also in Division C7] A body comprises a network of ferrous metal pieces compressed together to form an interlocking network the network having a density of 4À0-6À3 gm/c.c., a porosity of 20-50% and a short transverse tensile strength of at least 2 p.s.i., the interstices in the network being infiltrated with magnesium metal or magnesium alloy so that the body comprises 5-18% by weight magnesium or magnesium alloy. The short transverse tensile strength is the tensile strength of the compressed network in the direction of the compression force. The metal network is made by compressing scrap ferrous metal pieces, especially steel turnings, preferably having dimensions within the ranges: length #-9 inches, width <SP>1</SP>/ 64 -1 inch, thickness 1-100 mils. Any oil on the scrap is burnt off before or after compressing. The network is then immersed in molten magnesium or alloy until the required amount has impregnated it, a few minutes being usually sufficient. The body is preferably cooled after impregnation by immersion in an oil bath. The body is used as a desulphurizing agent for treating ferrous metals while in the molten state.</p>
