PURPOSE:To obtain highly versatile polymer particles upon whose surfaces a conjugated diolefin is localized, by polymerizing the conjugated diolefin in the presence of emulsion-polymerized ethylene type polymer particles. CONSTITUTION:A monomer mixture contaning 100-10wt% of a conjugated diolefin and 0-90wt% of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer such as an aromatic vinyl monomer is polymerized in the presence of (A) polymer particles prepared by emulsion-polymerizing in an aqueous medium, 100pts.wt. of a monomer mixture containing 96-99.5wt% of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer selected from the group consisting of aromatic vinyl monomers, alkyl acid esters in which the alkyl is 1-8C, 1-12C alkyl methacrylates and vinyl cyanide compounds, and 4-0.5wt% of an alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid with the aid of 0- 6pts.wt. of an emulsifier and 0.1-5pts.wt. of a persulfate, thereby forming polymer particles consisting of the particles of polymer (A) upon whose surfaces the (co)polymer (B) of the conjugated diolefin is localized in a weight ratio, (A)/(B), of 100/5-90. |
