Stacking successive layers of crates on pallet - by gripper raised on return to raised next layer, so stacking by horizontal movement only

The unit stacks successive layers (4) of bottle crates from a platform surface (3) on to a pallet (2). This is supported (1) with its upper surface at the same level as that of the surface (3) on which the layers arrive. The layers are horizontally moved one at a time (6a-d) by a gripper head (5) which, on its return (7) to the surface (3) for the next layer, is raised (10). The surface (3) is also raised.
