Lathe for large or small work-pieces - has two headstocks and central tailstock with different slideways for alternative lateral positioning

The lathe is built with two headstocks (9) mounted on a common bedplate (1) with a tailstock (4) mounted between them. The tailstock has a spindle projecting from each side so that short workpieces can be machined at either end of the bedplate. Tool posts (7) are mounted on transverse slides (5) which are in turn mounted on longitudinal slides. When machining very long workpieces, one of the headstocks is removed and the tail stock brought to the free end of the bedplate. The bedplate has four longitudinal guide ways which permit different lateral positions of the tool post (7) and tailstock (4).
