The jet forming device for producing very fine spray particles (10) is suitable for an oil burner. The liquid is discharged from a tube (10) into a chamber (12) formed by the converging ends (18) of an outer tube projecting forwards beyond it. Assisted by air flow between the tubes and guide vanes (16) around the end of the inner tube, a whirling flow is produced. This enters a reaction chamber (20) inside a larger tube (28), assisted by a gas flow entering through a number of radial jet tubes (30) increasing the swirling action. A distributor body (21) can be supported in line with the discharge opening (22) of the first chamber. The amount by which the tubes project into the larger chamber can be adjusted. The tubes can also be fitted at an angle to act tangentially on the helical swirling flow. The design reduces pollution by the burner.
