The mechanism gives linear movement of a machine component etc. from the rest to a fixed working position, using a recirculatory-ball-type spindle drive with little self-locking action. A reversible drive turns the spindle or nut, thus sliding nut or spindle along a straight guide. A friction brake (11,12) acts on the rotary member.
