PURPOSE:To provide a optical fiber matrix which causes little crack generation or outer diameter variations by a method wherein glass soot is jetted onto a target and stacked while an oxidizing or inert gas is being flowed in a heating furnace. CONSTITUTION:A glass composition liquid base material is flowed in the direction A and is atomized by mixed gas of H2 and Ar, then is jetted and ignited at the nozzle outlet of the burner 11. N2 gas is flowed from the direction 2, O2 gas from the direction 3, so that a flame 4 contg. glass soot is generated at the section before the nozzle outlet. This flame 4 is jetted onto the target 7 inserted into the core tube 6 in the electric furnace 5. As glass soot stacks on the target 7, the target 7 is moved in the direction 9 so that a constant gap is maintained between the burner 11 and the surface of glass soot stack. During the glass soot stacking, O2 gas is flowed from the direction 13 into the core tube 6 via gas inlet pipe 12 so that the O2 gas flows along the arrows 13', 13''. In this manner, a glass soot rod 10 is obtained. |
