The evaporative heat exchanger transfers heat between a medium flowing in pipes and gas or vapour flowing along the outside of the pipes. It operates with the aid of a liq. vaporised as it is delivered onto the outside of the pipes. In order to distribute the liq. evenly over the surface of the pipes (5) a system of troughs (13) is mounted above them, the liq. being delivered to the troughs via profiled guide bodies (6') above and bearing against them. The troughs can be spaced apart for the same intervals as the pipes and parallel to them, there being lengthwise ribs under the troughs extending down to the pipes.
