Esters of 3-amino-5,6-dichloropyrazinoic acid are prepared by reacting chlorine with the corresponding ester of 3-aminopyrazinoic acid in the presence of a polar non-prolic solvent such as acetonitrile, dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, dioxan, tetrahydrofuran, carbon tetrachloride, ethylene dichloride and hexane, at a temperature between room temperature and the reflux temperature. |
