[Also in Division F2] A centrifugal strainer has a screen 19, lining a frusto-conical foraminous support 18, and a scraper conveyor 20 with helical vanes, the support and conveyor being rotated at different speeds and mounted on respective coaxial shafts 106 and 112, shaft 112 being mounted within shaft 106 by bearing 70 which eliminates axial play between the shafts at this level. Bearing 70 (Fig. 3, not shown) comprises two sets of balls running in respective inner and outer races, which are clamped to the shafts by nut 144 and ring 146, and shims (180) are inserted between the two inner races to relatively force them axially apart. The same effect is obtainable using shims between the outer races or by grinding races down before clamping. Axial play between shafts is permitted by lower bearing 72, to allow for thermal expansion. The upper bearing 62 for the outer shaft has a floating outer race to allow axial expansion. Washing fluids are delivered to filter cake, advancing downwards across the screen, from concentric pipes 134, 136 through passages 122, 124 and 126, 128, 130, 132 in the conveyor. The assembly shown is mounted in a housing, and power is supplied from a motor through belt(s) 84 and differential speed transmission 80 to shafts 106, 112. |
