<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering of the catalyst function checking attachment of glass-converted matter by means of a porous member made of a metal selected from among Mg, Al, Ti, Zn and Mn arranged between an internal combustion engine and an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A porous material 5 made of a metal selected from among Mg, Al, Ti, Zn, Mn and an alloy thereof is arranged between an exhaust port 1 of an internal combustion engine E and an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst 3. This allows metal oxides to adhere to the surface of an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst when formed by oxygent in the exhaust gas passing through the porous material 5 thereby checking glass conversion of P2O5 or the like. The porous material 5 can take various shapes such as those like a plate, a slit, a wool, a chip, a ribbon, etc. As the exhaust gas temperature rises, the surface of the porous material is oxidized and the resultant metal oxides adhere to the surface of the catalyst without being vitrified.</p> |
