Braking system for DC motor - returns power to battery during braking by using charged capacitor to excite motor

The braking system has a circuit to initiate self-excitation in the motor, causing it to act as a generator, during the braking phase so that power is returned from the motor to the battery that normally supplies it. The self-excitation circuit contains a capacitor (14) charged by the battery when the motor is being supplied from the battery and discharged into the motor when the motor is acting as generator during braking. The capacitor is in series with a resistor (15) and a diode (17) in a shunt path across the battery and in a closed circuit with the motor, the electronic switch of the motor (5) and a second diode (16).
