1,119,322. Furnace roof. HARBISONWALKER REFRACTORIES CO. 30 Jan., 1967 [11 March, 1966], No. 4468/67. Heading F4B. A furnace roof, particularly a downwardly concave roof for an electric furnace comprises bricks 1 arranged in concentric rings, the outer rings comprising metal encased basic bricks, and the central part of the roof formed of uncased basic bricks 12-19 joined by a mortar containing sufficient iron oxide to react to form a monolithic hot face. Holddown members 25 maintain the contour of the roof on heating, and crimps in the metal casing of the bricks of the outer rings allow for expansion in the radial and circumferential directions. The use of uncased bricks at the central part avoids the danger of short circuiting the furnace through the metal brick casings. |
