A substantially planar anode is made from strips (11) of infiltrated sintered metal, e.g. lead infiltrated sintered titanium, joined by longitudinally extending ribs (14) of a metal capable of forming an electrically conductive insoluble oxide when immersed in electrolyte under anodic conditions. The ribs, which have greater electrical conductivity than the infiltrated sintered metal, are metallurgically bonded to and laterally shielded by the strips of infiltrated metal. Such anodes are particularly suitable for use in zinc electrowinning. |
