PURPOSE:To prevent longitudinal cracking from occuring in an ingot, in continuous casting, by measuring the temperature fluctuating amounts of mold steel plates and so controlling oscillation conditions that the temperature fluctuating amounts become minimum. CONSTITUTION:Investigation of the relations between the temperature changes of mold copper plates and the longitudinal cracking indexes produced in an ingot reveals that if the temperature fluctuating amount is large the longitudinal cracking index is high and if the temperature fluctuating amount is below a fixed value the longitudinal cracking hardly occurs. This indicates that the inflow condition of powder may be known from the temperature fluctuating amounts. Also, the investigation of the relations between the frequencies and amplitues, these being oscillation conditions, and the flow rates of powder reveals that if the frequency or amplitude or both are lowered, the inflow rate of the powder increases. This indicates that the flow rate of the powder may be regulated by the oscillation conditions even if no changes are made with the powder. Namely, if the temperature fluctuating amount of the mold copper plates is measured and if the oscillation conditions are so controlled that the amount becomes minimum, the inflow rate of the powder becomes optimum and the occurrence of longitudinal cracking in the ingot may be prevented. |
