PRODUCTION OF METAL PHTHALOCYANINE POLYCARBOXYLIC ACID

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled carboxylic acid having superior catalytic property and useful as a deodorant in good yield and purity, by hydrolyzing a metal phthalocyanine polycarboxylic acid amide in an alkali. CONSTITUTION:(A) A benzene polycarboxylic anhydride is reacted with (B) urea and (C) a metal chloride in the presence of a catalyst and the obtained metal phthalocyanine polycarboxylic acid amide is hydrolyzed in an alkali to afford the aimed carboxylic acid expressed by, e.g. the formula (M represents metal having oxidation-reduction ability iron or cobalt; Y represents plural carboxyl or H). For example, the reaction is preferably carried out by using iron chloride, etc., as the component C at 160-170 deg.C reaction temperature for 3-5hr reaction time by using a reaction solvent such as nitrobenzene.
