HF coaxial cable is produced with a continuously extruded thermoplastic insulation covering round an inner conductor and with disc-shaped separators of the same polymer to hold an outer conductor or an insulating sleeving. Where the discs are to be placed, the polymer is considerably thickened and the discs are formed by compressing those thickened areas whilst they are still soft. The polymer is e.g. polyethylene. Separators are free from voids and weld points, the inner insulation is not deformed between the separator when the latter are formed, any water penetration is restricted by the two adjacent separators. |
