Slab guide track adjustment in continuous casting plant - where rolls in guide track cannot exert excessive compressive stresses on cast slab

In the driving and straightening part of the track is a row of stands, each carrying a lower driven roll mounted in a traverse resting on work cylinders. The upper rolls are each suspended from a traverse, each end of which is attached by a tie rod (16) to a piston rod (15) in a hydraulic cylinder (HC) (13). A bush (22) slides in the top cap (21) of HC (13), and also on rod (15), and acts as an adjustable limit stop for a flange on rod (15). The result is that a heavy rolling pressure on the slab is avoided when the roll gap is reduced. Accurate control of roll pressure on the slab; and the rolls can be reversed to drive a dummy slab up into the mould to form a chill at the start of casting.
