A high quality photosensitive plate for a photocopier has a smooth layer (2) applied to a prepared base, with the photosensitive emulsion (3) coated over the top. The coated layer has a min. of defects and is superior to a polished finish. The intermediate layer is conductive on a non-conducting base. It can be vacuum coated aluminium or similar material. It provides a high quality, low cost base preparation for the photosensitive emulsion.
