HV fixed valve layer resistor - has U-cut segments in parallel formation along one side to characteristics for high stability

The resistance layer (1) on an insulating base is between two ohmic end caps (2). Fine adjustment to the required value at high voltages is effected by cutting 'U'-shaped (3) inserts into the layer such that current and potential characteristics at the cuts do not tend to flash over. The bottom line (32) of the 'U' sections runs parallel to the layer edge (4). Several cross cuts (31) then reach in from the layer edge (4) to the base (32) of the 'U' formation. Completing the 'U' provides the high stability characteristic of 'L' type cut layer resistors.
