The motor has a static drive coil layout and a translator with a number of magnetic rings arranged one after the other with alternating magnetic polarity in the axial direction, so as to concentrically surround the coil layout and an inner flux conductor, as in 2742050. Each of the magnetic rings comprising the stator is formed by two mating half shells radially mangetised in the same sense. These half shells are arranged along the length of two mating halves with radial flanges bolted together to provide the outer flux conductor.
