Floor construction includes a layer of insulating loose bulk material covered with dry boards esp. boards contg. plaster. Specifically the loose bulk material is untreated cork granules of particle size distribution 35 wt.% 0.15-1.00 mm., 65 wt.% 1.00-4.00 mm the latter being split up into one third each in the ranges of 1.00-2.00, 2.00-3.00 and 3.00-4.00 mm. Part of the cork may be replaced by another material esp. perlite granules intimately mixed with the cork; or an organic material in fibre, shell or lamellae structure. Insulating material conserves its density over long periods in spite of considerable surface wear on the boards or tiles due to walking. The construction is temperature insensitive and is particularly suitable for use with electric under floor heating systems. Improved acoustic insulation is achieved, which is lasting.
