Mash clarifier vat has a screen formed from a surface of rotation having slots in planes at right angles to the axis of the surface to lead wort to a central run-off, the slots cleaned out by rotary scavenger. - The scavengers are carried on a common bar in the same plane as the surface axis and can be stationary while the slotted plate forming the screen rotates. - The slots should expand in section radially at the outer end to clear grains and are arranged between a stack of plates leading to a central run-off tube with perforations and rise and fall cut-off plunger to force the wort out and drive purging water through the slots to clear them after wort removal. - Clogging is avoided by continuously or intermittently rotating the scavengers and slots, and the grain cake forming in the plate slots is completely removed.
