The appts. enables the use of hydrogen as a fuel for an IC engine. In such applications hydrogen is usually stored in metal hydrides and heat is required to liberate it and make it available to the engine. The hydrogen gas liberating system uses the principle of the heat pipe to transfer waste heat from the engine to the metal hydride fuel store. By employing an evaporating and condensing medium in a sealed heat pipe, higher temps. can be used than by employing engine cooling water.
