PURPOSE:To increase the lifetime of the solar battery and to enhance the energy conversion efficiency of the battery by employing merocyanine dye containing no free carboxyl group in a molecule. CONSTITUTION:An aluminun translucent electrode is deposited on a glass plate, the degree of vacuum is abruptly lowered, and an Al2O3 film is formed thereon. Further, the merocyanine dye of predetermined structure are deposited thereon, and a silver deposition film is superimposed thereon. In the structural formula, R represents 1-20C straight chain alkyl group, R' represents 1-20C straight chain alkyl group or (CH3)nCOOH..Z, wherein Z represents amine, and X and Y are O or S. The energy conversion efficiency of the solar battery largely depends upon the thickness of the insulating layer, the thickness of dyes, and light transmittivity of the aluminum electrode, and when these conditions are the same, the conversion efficiency can be increased and the lifetime can also be lengthened by employing merocyanine dye having no free carboxyl group. |
