PURPOSE:To make the construction of a branching function part smaller and simpler by constituting the optical guides comprising three terminals of a Y shape of <=45 deg. in the angle assumed by the two terminals optically with the fibers alone. CONSTITUTION:The end face of an optical fiber 1 is polished by having inclination of <=22.5 deg. and is evaporation deposited thereon with multilayer dielectric films 4 provided with such optical characteristics that reflect the light of a wavelength lambda1 and allow the transmission of the light of a wavelength lambda2. The light of the wavelength lambda2 of the light waves of the wavelengths lambda1 and lambda2 having propagated in the fiber 1 transmits through the multilayer dielectric films 4a evaporation deposited on the slope of the fiber 1 and the light of the wavelength lambda1 is reflected thereby. The light waves of the wavelength lambda2 having transmitted through the multilayer dielectric films 4a of the fiber 4 transmit through the multilayer dielectric films 4b deposited on the end face of a fiber 2 and are coupled to the fiber 2. The light wave of the wavelength lambda1 having been reflected by the multilayer dielectric films 4a transmit through the multilayer dielectric films 5 deposited on the end face of a fiber 3 and are coupled to the fiber 3. In this way, the construction of the branching function part is made simpler and smaller. |
