A reaction prod. from (1) 1 mol. of a monomeric condensate prepd. by alkali-catalysed reaction, in aq. medium, of 1 mol. of phenols with 0.7-1.2 mols. of HCHO and 0.7-1.2 mols. of bisulphite, where the phenols are a mixt. of (i) 1 mol. of at least one phenol with pKA value of at least 9.5, and 0.01-1 mol. of at least one phenol with pKA value of not more than 9.5, and (2) (a) 0.8-1.5 mols. of HCHO, or (b) 0.8-3 mols. of HCHO and 0.1-1 mol. of a N cpd. which can react with at least 2 equivs. of HCHO. The prods. are dispersants, esp. for dyeing at high temp., e.g. in jet appts. Very even dyeing is obtd.
