An extrusion head, used for forming non-woven fabrics with the aid of an aerated molten bath, has a nozzle piece comprising a transverse triangular section and extrusion holes along the point of the triangle. The extrusion head has associated lips defining slots for the gas on one side and also the other of the nozzle. Movable spacing elements are provided in the slots to define the width of the slot. The spacing elements may be formed of metal, ceramic or synthetic ruby, etc. The precise maintenance of the width of the slots in the extrusion head of the invention by means of a sliding or movable spacer provides the stable non-woven fabrics over a period of time. Problems associated with interrupted extrusion, resulting in droplets formed at the extrusion orifice, and consequent 'needleholding' of the fabric, or malformed fibres caused by incrustation or turbulent gas flow, are resolved by the use of adjustable spacers in the nozzle head. |
