<p>The ships davit comprises one or more carrier arms (1) each having a pulley (2) for a cable (3) for a releasable lifeboat (8) coupling (5,6). The free end (27,28) of swivel arm (9) pivoted (10,11) to the arm (1) engages the coupling (5,6) whilst, nearer to the pivots (10,11) it is connected to a cable (17) whose upper end is fixed (33-36) to the arm (1) above the pivots (10,11). The end of the swivel arm (9) is forked (27,28) and engages a suspension cable (23) near the coupling (5,6). The arrangement is such that, if the lifeboat becomes buoyant, the forked connection (27,28) disengages and the arm (9), together with the cable (17), move out of the way.</p> |
