Installation cools prods. in sealed containers which have just been sterilised in hot water. The sterilising water is cooled by recycling through a heat exchanger where heat is transferred to a fluid circulated in closed circuit. The closed circuit includes one side of a second heat exchanger where the fluid is cooled by sea water at ambient temp. the heated sea water is run to waste, e.g. returned to the sea. The heat transfer fluid in the closed circuit is pref. fresh water or oil. The closed circuit fluid and and the sea water are pref. both pumped through the second heat exchanger. The rate of flow of sea water is pref. much ereater, e.g. not less than 50% greater than the rate of flow of closed circuit fluid passing through the second heat exchanger. A holding tank is pref. installed in the closed circuit between the outlet of the first heat exchanger and the inlet of the second heat exchanger. The closed circuit pref. includes a bypass which excludes the first heat exchanger. Used for cooling of sealed containers, cans, jars, bottles etc. of food or pharmaceutical prods. which have just been sterilised in hot water. Sea water is employed for cooling rather than running fresh ater to waste, so the process is much cheaper.
|
