<p>An emission monitoring method for vehicles involves pumping fuel to the injection or carburation system of the vehicle from an external tank (8) whilst the vehicle is on a dynamometer. The exhaust gases are gathered via a tube (11). The method is more economical and easier to implement than a constant volume sample test, but produces sufficient accuracy of emission parameters derived from measured conc. values. A small fraction of the exhaust gases pass to a collector (14) via the tube (11), a vol. divider (12), and a three-way valve (13). When the collector is full, its contents are passed via the valve (13) to an analyser (16). The vol. divider contains a wt. or spring loaded baffle plate arrangement and releases most of the exhaust gas to the atmosphere after mixing it with air.</p> |
