The DC or AC generator working in the MegaWatt or GigaWatt region has a double rotor one section rotating within the other, both rotating in opposite directions. The rotors may be driven from separate motors of from a single motor via suitable gearing. The outer of the two carries the pole pieces and associated windings. The relative rotational speed of the two should be as high as possible, the relative speed being equal to the sum of the two rotors. The use of two rotors increases the output with out any increase in mass or volume of the generator output windings. Very high currents can be drawn, greater than 10kAmps, by liq. sliding contacts over the generator surface.
