<p>The salient pole rotor is designed such that the windings can be easily removed without incurring problems with the rotor magnetic circuit. The rotor rim consists of plane section laminations forming radial poles extending its full length. Each pole face (6) has an overhanging lip (8) defining the winding (14) depth. Each plane section is in several parts (16,18,20,22) displaced from its neighbouring section to maintain mechanical strength and proper flux distribution. Windings around each pole are held in place by wedges (40) keyed into the rim. Groups of turns in the winding are spaced by blocks forming cooling channels the coil thickness being maintained by jointing layers in the coil connection region. The turn interconnections are maintained by bolts through their thickness into the pole pieces.</p> |
