In an overhead camshaft engine the valve rockers 2, Fig.3, are always urged by springs 6 against the cam 1 so that any clearance exists at B between the rocker and valve stem. In Fig.3 the rockers are pivoted on studs 5 and the spring 6 is anchored to the stud at 6b and has a loop 6a which applies an anti-clockwise torque to the rocker to urge it against the cam 1. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the rockers are pivoted on rocker shafts (11) about which they are urged by the springs (6) to maintain contact with the cams (1). |
