MANUFACTURE OF NEGATIVE PLATE FOR ALKALINE STORAGE BATTERY

PURPOSE:To easily obtain a current-collecting edge of a pasted plate by filling a porous core metal with a pastelike active material before removing the active material of fixed parts of the core metal to make the core metal of the fixed parts to be exposed, and after that cutting this into each electrode-plate unit in such a manner that the exposed part of the core metal becomes an edge of the plate unit. CONSTITUTION:An active material such as cadmium oxide is added with a conducting material, a reinforcing material and a binder, and these are mixed to make a paste. Both surfaces of a porous core material 1 which is made of a material such as a drilled plate are filled with the mixture paste. This is dried and compressed to give a nonchemically-treated negative-plate. Fixed parts of an active-material layer 3 of the negative plate is removed to give electrode-plate units: the electrode- plate unit is provided with an exposed part 4 where both sides of the core metal are exposed. Then the plate is cut in such a manner that the exposed part 4 becomes an edge of the unit. The exposed part 4 serves as a current-collecting edge of the negative plate.
