The device for rotationally coupling a flywheel (1) mounted to revolve on a shaft of a sewing machine comprises a pulley (5) mounted coaxially with the flywheel (1) so it can be moved angularly with respect to the latter. A gearwheel (6) is mounted end-on on the shaft (3) and a pawl (7), mounted pivotably on the flywheel (1) may be engaged between two teeth of the gearwheel (6) in order rotationally to couple the flywheel (1) onto the shaft (3). <IMAGE>
