PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered base plate with high porosity, an increased surface- area and excellent strength by subjeting either iron fibers on nickel-plated iron-fibers with a given dimater to distribution moulding, heating the moulding at a low temperature in air, and followed by compression sintering in a reducing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Either iron fibers or nickel-plated iron-fibers with a diameter of 2-50mu and a length of, for example, 3-300mm. are subjected to distribution moulding, followed by heating in air at a low temperature, for example, at 15-400 deg.C for 5-120min. Thus thin oxidized films are formed on the surfaces of iron fibers or nickel-plated iron-fibers. After that, the moulded fibers with thin oxidized films on them are sintered in a reducing atmosphere such as hydrogen gas, for example, under a pressure of 1-2t/cm<2> at a temperature of 900-1,250 deg.C for 10-120min. The oxidized films, which are formed by heating at a low temperature, are reduced in the reducing atmosphere to make the surfaces active, and besides, the fibers are made almost in contact with one another by compressing. Therefore, sinterings between the fibers are performed more easily. |
