摘要 PURPOSE:To increase the adhering strength of hard coating layer to high speed steel substrate, by forming hard coating layer comprising one or more specific Ti compounds on the surface of a high speed steel substrate with interposition of Ti coating layer. CONSTITUTION:A Ti coating layer of <=2mu thickness is formed on the surface of high speed steel substrate by vapor deposition of Ti ions or Ti atoms. Then a hard coating layer of 0.5-10mu thickness composed of single layer or plural layers consisting of one or more members among titanium carbide, titanium nitride, titanium carbonitride is formed on the Ti coating layer at a temp. not higher than the tempering temp. of the high speed steel by low temp. vapor deposition such as ion plating method, sputtering method, plasma chemical vapor deposition method etc. Because the hard coating layer sticks firmly to the surface of the substrate with the interposition of Ti layer, the material coated with the hard coating layer has stable cutting performance for a long time.
