The composition comprises water having an organic solvent (such as a water-miscible liquid ester, a water-miscible glycol ether or ester thereof, or a water-immiscible aromatic compound), a wetting agent and a thickening agent, the latter being present in an amount such that a film of the composition applied to a vertical surface will not flow significantly from the area of application. In use, the composition is applied to wallpaper (such as emulsion- painted wallpaper) which is adhered to a surface by means of a water- soluble adhesive followed by allowing the composition to soften the adhesive prior to physical removal of the wallpaper from the surface. |
