1349268 Separating animal fat SYBRON CORP 8 Dec 1971 [5 Feb 1971] 57099/71 Heading C5C In a process for centrifugally separating fatbearing animal material into at least two phases, one phase comprising fat and the other phase (stickwater) comprising water, emulsified fat and defatted solids, the stickwater phase is treated to remove residual fat by heating the stickwater phase to above 220‹ F. (e.g. 260- 300‹ F. ) and holding it quiescent in a pressurized vessel at a pressure above the vapour pressure of the components (e.g. 45-75 p.s.i.g.) whereby the stickwater phase separates into an upper layer comprising fat and insoluble solids and a lower layer comprising water and dissolved solids. The lower layer may be dried to recover a protein meal animal feed or may be discharged to the sewage system. The fat recovered from the upper layer may be mixed with the fat phase obtained from the centrifugal separation or mixed with the animal material to be rendered.
|
