The artificial heart valve (1) comprises a housing (2) containing at least one hinged (5) eccentric (e) closure disc (3) and a stop to define its closed position. Adjacent to the disc, the housing is provided with a hollow space (4) whilst the opening angle of the disc is limited to 60-90 deg. pref. at least 80 deg. The axial length (1) of the cavity (4) may be between two and five times pref. three times the radius (r) of the housing. There may be two such discs each with a corresponding cavity (4) in the housing. The eccentricity (e) of the hinge pivot (5) is pref. 0.75 times the radius (r).
