The toothbrush comprises: a handle (1) which has a hollow reservoir portion (3) with flexible walls; an intermediate zone with a screwthread (5) on which to engage a bristle bearing head (2); and an elongated rigid portion (6) with an opening (7) for dispensing the paste. The bristle bearing head (2) is rigid and has bristles (12) on an external face and comprises an internal cavity (13) whose shape and size substantially correspond to the elongated portion of the handle; an internally threaded portion (14) which can be engaged on the screwthread of the intermediate portion of the handle, and a hole (16) for dispensing the material, located on the face bearing the bristles. The position of said dispensing hole is such that it can be made to correspond with the dispensing aperture in the handle. The device can be made for use as a toothbrush or as a brush for cleaning shoes. <IMAGE>
