The solar energy collecting tube comprises a sealed inner glass tube partially enclosed by an outer glass tube. The outer tube is fused to the inner tube and a vacuum is maintained between them. The part of the inner tube which is enclosed by the outer tube has an absorbent layer on its outer surface. Inside the inner tube is a system of capillary tubes and a liquid. The liquid is evaporated at the enclosed end of the tube and so moves to the other end where it condenses giving up its latent heat. Capillary action draws back again the condensed liquid to repeat the process.
