The method of securing a spindle in a bore in a second component (11) uses an adaptor sleeve (3) with a rounded groove (4) at one end with its convex external face fitting into the bore. At the other end is a second groove (5) with its convex internal face fitting into a groove around the spindle (2). On assembly, the sleeve projects beyond the end of the spindle, leaving a space for a second spindle (12) to fit inside and abutting the end of the first spindle. A spring loaded ball (13) on this second spindle fits inside the first groove (4) and this spindle (12) can also carry a connecting element (14) projecting from its outer end. The other end of the sleeve has a locating ring (6) which can be locked onto grooves along the first spindle.
