The fork lift truck (10) has a driver position with overhead canopy (20) carried on upward rear pillars (36) fixed to the counterweight (54). A hinged hood (26) normally covers the drive assembly, behind the battery (22) and carries the driver's seat (28). The lower end of each pillar (36) is, on the inside, provided with a plate (at 58) with a downwardly angled open slot capable of receiving an outwardly projecting lateral pin secured near the underside at the rear of the hood. The hood can be swivelled upwards into a vertical position for access to the drive assembly.
