Composite panels for covering roofs comprises a structureal sheet carrying parallel rails for supporting tiles and between which a relatively shallow layer of foamed resin is cast. The foam is produced continuously and controlled for depth by entering a continuously fed press. Pref. the press face is fitted with (interchangeable) ribs to shape the foam so that the sides and top of the rails are coated with the foam. Specific foams are made from polyurethane, phenolic, thermoplastic, polycarbonimide, polyimide or urea-formaldehyde resin. Pref. the foam is covered by a sheet of relatively durable and impermeable material, esp. Al foil, alone or as a laminate with paper or glass fibre mat, steel, bituminous paper or cloth, plain or reinforced polyolefin film or sheet. Opt. a layer of heat- or fire-resistant material such as glass or mineral wool or expanded PVC, may be interposed between the cast foam and its cover sheet.
