The combustion engine comprises two pairs of cylinders (4) containing freely floating pistons (6). During the expansion stroke, these press oil, via ducts (10) in the ported cylinder blocks (2), into blind bores (13) arranged at an angle in a central rotor (3). The rotor is carried on bearings (8) on a fixed shaft (1) arranged between the cylinder blocks of each pair. The bores contain spring-loaded pistons (5) which return the oil via ducts (11,9) into ducts (12) of the other cylinder pair, which moves their pistons (6) to TDC to provide compression. The ducts contain non-return valves (7). The rotor has gear teeth (21) for the power output.
