The chair has a tubular steel frame (10) with two lengthwise struts (13) for the backrest (11). The backrest (11) is made of flexible plastics in one piece and can be fitted quickly and easily onto the tubular metal frame (10). The two lengthwise edges (12) of the backrest (11) are curved round to form grooves (21) which enclose the lengthwise struts (13) over more than 90 deg. The backrest has smooth surfaces, and has a pocket (15) at the top. The backrest (11) is of the constant thickness of approximately 2 to 3.5 millimetres thick.
