The tubular sleeving is for electrical cables or pipes, and is formed of an insulating material which contracts under the influence of heat. The sleeving is split along its length, and on the longitudinal faces of this split it carries projections extending towards the exterior and securing its sealed closure. A rail (6) is anchored along the length of each edge of the split to form a projection, and this is coupled to the projection extending from the other side to form a joint which resists pressure and traction. The rails, which may be formed from metal or synthetic material, may be adapted to interlock with each other by means of their profile, or may have perforations through which fasteners are inserted. The sleeve may be used to protect joints or terminations of the cable or pipe.
